Anna Bertke
Anna Marie (Borger) Bertke, age 97 of St. Henry, passed away from natural causes on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at The Gardens at St. Henry.
She was born on April 17, 1923 in St. Henry, OH, to Henry and Emilia (Kevelder) Borger. She married Wilbur (Bill) Bertke of Cassella, OH on June 28, 1952 in St. Henry, and he preceded her in death on May 31, 2020.
She is survived by four children, Virginia and Donald Kremer of St. Henry, Helen and Robert Stover of Celina, Walter and Teresa Bertke of Atlanta, GA, and Alfred and Patricia Bertke of St. Henry. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 6 step great grandchildren. She is survived by Bertke in-laws Rita Bertke of Dayton, and Norbert Otting of Minster.
Anna was the last surviving member of her family of nine children. She is preceded in death by siblings Norma Borger, Margaret and Lamar Bierly, Clara and Richard Crombie, Eva and Joseph Weitzel, and infants Mildred, Frederick Donald, Mary Louise, and Bernard Borger. Also by 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and her parents-in-law Leo and Anna (Lindhaus) Bertke, and Bertke in laws Leander (Charlie) and Vera Bertke, Cyril and Dorothy Bertke, Euleta and Werner Bensman, Louis and Evelyn Bertke, Ernest Bertke, and Norma Otting and by the younger Marinus, Mary Ann, and Dennis Bertke.
In her early years Anna had several housecleaning jobs. She was also employed at Buckeye Overall in Coldwater and Beckman & Gast Canning Co in St. Henry. She retired from Coldwater Hospital in 1988, after working in the dietary department for over 20 years.
Anna Marie was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Sodality. She was also a member of Cassella Catholic Financial Life. She was born in a house on Center St. in St. Henry and lived there her entire life until she went to the nursing home in Feb. of 2015. She has been a resident of the Gardens at St. Henry since June of 2016. She enjoyed playing Bingo and participating in the Rosary and Mass.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, a funeral Mass with social distancing will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, October 2, 2020 at St. Henry Catholic Church with live stream at https://sthenrycluster.com/livestream/. Burial will follow at St. Henry Cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday, October 1 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and Friday, October 2 from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Activity Fund at The Gardens at St. Henry, to the St. Henry Emergency Squad, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
