Timothy Sutherby
Timothy Blair Sutherby passed away peacefully on May 2nd 2023 at the age of 80. If he was here right now, he'd shout "What do ya want?", just like he started every conversation.
Tim was born on February 17, 1943 in Fenton, Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; three daughters, Stacey McGohan of Fernandina Beach, FL (Todd), Cindy Kuntze of Wellington, FL (Justin) and Courtney Sutherby of New Orleans, LA; sister, Linda Smith; and 7 grandchildren, Kevin (Hannah), Grace (Dillon), Rose, Jack, Cash, Quinn, and Clark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rube and Mary Sutherby; his former wife, Cora Sutherby; and his siblings, Gary Sutherby, Spencer Sutherby; and Brenda Belding.
Tim was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War. At one point he was tasked with filing discharge papers for his fellow servicemen and women. After his years in the service were up, he made the decision to put his own discharge papers through to be signed. He had a certain way of doing things. Tim's way was always the right way.
He retired in 2007 from General Motors following 42 years of service. As a retiree, he embraced a spirit of humor and stubbornness as a husband, grandfather, neighbor, and friend to all.
After retiring, Tim lived in West Chester, OH; Celina, OH; and Fernandina Beach, FL where he frequented lunch spots with anyone who wanted to share a meal. Tim truly knew no strangers. If you didn't see him at a local restaurant, you certainly saw him speeding on the streets, honking at any slow drivers along the way.
Although Tim worked hard to hide his soft, compassionate side, his actions demonstrated his care for others in all that he did. He folded his grandkids' laundry, he chauffeured friends and family around, and he attended every school activity he could. His loyalty to people (and weekly restaurant specials) was unmatched.
His rough and tough side subsided each week on Monday nights as he turned into a Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton fan boy. His longstanding dedication to The Voice was another thing that made Tim, Tim.He spent his final night with his wife and daughter eating Moon River Pizza, watching The Voice, and shared his final words "let's get this show on the road."
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, Michigan. The burial will follow at 2:30 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly with military honors. A reception will follow the committal service.
