Samuel Barhorst
Samuel August Barhorst, age 80, of Liberty Way, Fort Loramie, passed away peacefully of natural causes Sunday morning, January 19, 2025, at the Ohio's Hospice of Miami County facility in Troy, Ohio. He was born August 15, 1944, in Piqua, Ohio, to the late Leo "Spin" & Mary (Schwartz) Barhorst. On January 11, 1969, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater, Samuel married Patricia (Dues) Barhorst who survives.
Also surviving are four children: Tim Barhorst of Fort Loramie, Angie & Kevin Geise of Sidney, Brenda & Rich Rose of Fort Loramie and Christopher & Kelly (Morris) Barhorst of New Albany; Eight grandchildren: Alex Barhorst, Kevin Geise Jr., Maddie & Jon Blankenship and Sam Geise, Kenneth and Dana Rose, Elise and Alaina Barhorst and two great-grandchildren, Knox and Paisley Blankenship; three siblings, Norman & Janet Barhorst of Fort Loramie, Nelson & Joyce Barhorst of Fort Loramie and Kathleen & Meinrad "Bud" Link of Celina; sisters & brothers-in-law: Ginny Dues of Coldwater, Charlie Dues of Coldwater, Georgene Knapke of Fairborn, Betty & Jack Goettemoeller of Colorado Springs, CO, and Mary & Don Eyink of Maria Stein along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three siblings, John & Ruth Barhorst, infant Barbara Barhorst and Michael & Mary Jo Barhorst as well as sisters & brothers-in-law: Ann Barhorst, Alvin Dues, Dan Knapke and Margie Knapke.
Mr. Barhorst was a 1962 graduate of Fort Loramie High School. He served in the Ohio Army National Guard for six years during the Vietnam war-protest era. In 2001, Mr. Barhorst retired from Spring Creek Ready Mix where he had been part owner and operator. Sam was involved with Spring Creek for 44 years. In last working years, he managed the Celina and Coldwater plants. Sam was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the Fort Loramie American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially boating and jet-skiing in Florida and at Grand Lake St. Marys. Sam followed his grand-children's sporting events and was also an avid Reds and Browns fan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. Andrew Reckers presiding. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery. Family and friends may call Tuesday 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Wednesday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
