Norman Bernard
Norman G. "Rocky" Bernard, 94 years old, of New Weston, died February 23, 2025, at The Gardens at St Henry.
He was born October 18, 1930, in St. Henry to the late William and Ada (Ahlers) Bernard. On Nov. 12, 1955, he married Ruth (Fink) Bernard, who died January 9, 2012.
Surviving Rocky are six children, Karen Mayorga, San Antonio, Texas, Dale (Stacy) Bernard, Auburn, Ind., Patricia Bernard, Denver, CO., Cindy (Jeff) Moeder, Maria Stein, Karla (Randy) Kunk, Coldwater, and Gary (Elizabeth) Bernard, Geneva Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Men's Sodality, Burkettsville, the church choir, as well as the Coldwater VFW. Rocky was a member of the St. Henry American Legion where he was a Past Commander and Chaplain. He was proud to have served his country in the Army during the Korean War.
As a proud provider for the family, Rocky worked at the former New Idea factory in Coldwater and retired from Copeland Refrigeration in Sidney after 37 years. He umpired numerous years of softball, made chicken BBQ (Rocky's famous chicken), and upon retirement baked over 300 pies for various individuals and not-for-profit organizations.
In addition to his immediate family Rocky is survived by a sister Edna Fox of St Henry, two brothers, Art (Janet) Bernard of St Henry, and Allen Bernard of Cincinnati. Two sisters preceded him in death Lillian Sherman and Arlene Brandewie, as well as brothers-in-law, John Fox, Eugene Sherman, and Maurice Brandewie.
The family would like to thank The Gardens at St. Henry and EverHeart Hospice for the excellent services and care that they provided.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2025, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Burkettsville, with Rev. Andrew Hess and Dec. Jerry Buschur officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery in Burkettsville.
Friends and family may call from 2-7 p.m. Thursday, February 27, and 9-10 a.m. Friday, February 28, at The Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry.
In Lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial contributions may be made to EverHeart Hospice or the St Henry American Legion.
