Andrew Rice
Andrew Justin Rice was born on August 14, 1978 in Celina, Ohio to Ann and Dennis Rice. He left us on February 23, 2025 at his home in Ferndale, Michigan at the age of 46.
If you were not a friend of Andy's, it is only due to the fact that you never met him. His love and desire to be helpful endeared Andy to anyone he met. He found happiness in so many things but mostly the connections he had with people - any people, from his very best friends to the Uber driver, Andy was going to make them his. And he was funny… like really funny. His sense of humor was silly and dark and contagious. Andy always knew the right thing to say at the wrong time.
Andy held a great deal of pride in his chosen communities of Hamtramck and Ferndale, Michigan. This sense of community helped him give as much of his heart as he did of his time. His life was devoted to service. Andy's loving nature helped him succeed in his career that he truly loved as a nurse and caregiver as well as a dedicated health administrator. His work was important to Andy, because it helped him help others.
Andy will be desperately missed by his family. His parents Ann and Dennis, twin sister Katie (Sean Watkins), younger brother Tony (Stacy Rice), and his beloved nieces Leland and Lauren. He is survived by his beloved Aunt Mag and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He married the love of his life, Michael Davis at the Hamtramck Social Event of the Year on January 23, 2016 at Hamtown Farms. Mike and Andy were a true match in both a dedication to service and love of community. They built a beautiful life together with an eclectic group that proves the power of building one's squad can transcend family tree.
Andy is preceded in death by a whole pride of cats, including Ms. Betty, Calvin, Maggie, Whitney and Rudi. He is survived by his three treasured babies, Dot Dot, LC and Baxter.
