Lloyd Smith
Lloyd O. Smith, 84, of Sidney, died at 1:45 a.m. Jan. 21, 2007, at Dorothy Love Retirement Community, Sidney.
He was born Oct. 10, 1922, in Pike County, to Herbert F. and Viola James Smith. On Feb. 20, 1943, he married Doris Steele Nelson, who died Nov. 7, 2006.
Survivors are a son, Stephen (Teresa), New Bremen; a sister, Audrey McClurg, Springfield; and twin granddaughters.
He was a retired project engineer for the Campbell's Soup Co. and was instrumental in the construction of Campbell's first V-8 plant in Napoleon, and supervised the construction of Campbell's major soup plant in Maxston, N.C. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Philippines. He was a 1940 graduate of Springfield High School and a 1946 graduate of Ohio State University, where he was a member of the Triangle Engineering Fraternity. He and his wife served several years as trustees for the Chapel by the Sea, South Padre Island.
Services are at noon Thursday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, the Rev. John W. Tostrick officiating. The body has been cremated at his request.
Calling is after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
