Vernon Watercutter
Vernon L. Watercutter, 68, of Anna, died at 4 a.m. Jan. 31, 2007, at James Cancer Center, Columbus. He was ill nine months.
He was born Dec. 1, 1938, in McCartyville, to Joseph and Mary Prenger Watercutter. On Jan. 24, 1959, he married Connie L. Shroyer, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Mark (Nancy), Joe (Shelley), Tom (Deb) and Matt, all of McCartyville; four daughters, Karen (Jim) Greve, McCartyville, Carol (Rich) Berning, Anna, and Linda (Jim) Maurer and Diane (Mark) Pleiman, all of Fort Loramie; a brother, Orville (Jeanette), Fort Loramie; a sister, Phyllis Poeppelman, Egypt; a brother-in-law, Louie Grieshop; and 22 grandchildren.
Deceased are three brothers-in-law, Orville Magato, John Meyer and Clem Poeppelman; and a sister, Dorothy Grieshop.
He was a retired farmer and lobbyist in Washington, D.C., for the National Farmers Union. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 7th Battalion 3rd Training Regiment, Company C. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, McCartyville; Knights of Columbus, where he served as past Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight and activity chairman; Ohio Farmer Union and vice president of Shelby County Farmer Union; Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391, Minster; and American Legion Post 217, Sidney.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Daniel Schmitmeyer officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
