Melvin Heitkamp
Melvin "Scurb" L. Heitkamp, 64, 402 Willow St., St. Henry, died at 3:25 a.m. Nov. 26, 2007, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater. Death was due to natural causes.
He was born Jan. 31, 1943, in St. Anthony, to Edward and Hilda Muhlenkamp Heitkamp. On Oct. 23, 1965, he married Evelyn Brinkman, who died July 8, 2001.
Survivors are three daughters, Lori (Ron) Lange, St. Henry, Sandy, Minster, and Karen (Dale) Poeppelman, Maria Stein; seven brothers, Paul (Stella) and Wilfred (Barbara), all of St. Henry, Elmer (Julie), Ron (Donna) and Dan (Mary), all of Coldwater, John (Millie), Tipp City, and Ken, Sanford, N.C.; four sisters, Dorothy (Don) Chaney, Houston, Eileen (Tom) Litmer, St. Joe, Ruth Sutter, St. Henry, and Janice (Howard) Homan, New Knoxville; and seven grandchildren.
Deceased is a son, Doug.
He worked at the former White-New Idea plant in Coldwater and New Bremen Machine & Tool. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, American Legion Post 470 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3025, both of Coldwater, and the Indiana National Guard.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Tony Fortman officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.
