Perry George Wise, 86, Van Wert, died Sept. 30, 2010, at his home.

He was born July 25, 1924, in Van Wert, to John Nelson and Freeda Alveta Crow Wise. His first wife, Mary Jo Davis died on July 25, 1951. On March 21, 1953, he married Edith JoAnn Richards, who survives.

Also surviving are four children, Debra Jo McConahy, Van Wert, Cynthia Jo Wise, South Bend, Ind., Perry G. Wise Jr., Urbana, and Dr. Brent R. Wise, New York, N.Y.; a sister, Vivian Ruth Otten, Centerville; four grandchildren; a great-grandson, and a step great-grandson.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a survivor of the Chosin Reservoir. He served as a legal officer and in the infantry. He was in the U.S. Marine Corps active reserves for 33 years and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was formerly a member of the United Calvary Church in Van Wert, where he held offices of treasurer, trustee and chairman of the administration council. He was a member of the Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church in Van Wert. He was a past president of the Van Wert Jaycees, PSO Outstanding Young Man of the Year, vice president of the Ohio Jaycees, the first president of the Van Wert County United Way, exalted ruler of the Van Wert Elks Lodge #1197, co-chairman of the Elks Cerebral Palsy Committee, past commander of the Post #178 American Legion, president of the Van Wert Bar Association, president of the Northwest Ohio Bar Association. He served 30 years on the Ohio State Board of Judicial Reform Committee, Common Pleas Court General Division Judge, trustee of the Western Ohio Educational Foundation which supports the Wright State University-Lake Campus, president of the Western Ohio Educational Foundation, executive director of the Van Wert County Child Advocates Inc. (CASA). He was a member of the Van Wert Elks Lodge #1197, Van Wert Moose Lodge #1320, Delphos Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #471, the Navy Club of the U.S. ship #726, Delphos Post #0268 of the American Legion, Van Wert Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #5803, the American Bar Association, and the Chosin Few.

Memorial services are 1 p.m. Oct. 17 at Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial is at Arlington Cemetery.

Calling is 2-8 p.m. Oct. 16 and noon -1 p.m. Oct. 17 at the church.
