Betty Purdy
Betty Jane Purdy, 90, of Celina, died June 25, 2012, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
She was born April 10, 1922, in Kankakee, Ill., to Jacob and Lucille Hays Cline. On Jan. 11, 1945, she married Don M. Purdy, who died June 24, 2012, at their home.
Surviving are two sons, Mark (Barbara) Purdy, San Jose, Calif., and Michael Purdy, Fort Myers, Fla.; two daughters, Jayme (Jim) Karen, Dallas, Texas, and Lisa (Bill) Wade, Apple Valley, Minn.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was a homemaker and had worked at Superior Coach in Lima, New Idea in Coldwater and City Loan in Celina. A 1939 graduate of Kankakee High School, she was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Altrurian Club and Phi Beta Psi Sorority, all of Celina. Active in the Democratic Party, she also worked at the polls.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Ken Schnipke officiating. Joint committal services for Betty and her husband Don, who died June 24, will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Celina.
Joint visitation for Betty and Don will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Celina.
Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or State of the Heart Hospice.
