Josephine Baker
Josephine F. Baker, 96, of Piqua, died at 9:50 a.m. June 24, 2012, at her home.
She was born March 5, 1916, in Dayton, to Ignatius J. and Clara H. Bubolz Weinert. On June 12, 1939, she married C. Oscar Baker, who died Oct. 10, 1974.
Surviving are three sons, Lawrence R. (Ann) Baker, Minster, Steven M. (Martha) Baker, Troy, and Thomas G. (Marsha) Baker, Piqua; a sister, Rosa Lee Weinert, Englewood; two daughters-in-law, Leesa A. Baker, Piqua, and Molly (Scott) Cameron, Piqua; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Marion and Fred Weinert; three sisters, Regina McCarthy, Alberta Dickman and Rita Weinert; and one grandson.
A graduate of Julienne High School and the Dayton Comptometer School, she was employed at Kroger Grocery and Baking Company and later as treasurer for WPTW Radio Inc. and Valley Antenna Systems in Piqua.
She was a charter member of the Good Samaritan, Piqua Memorial and Upper Valley Medical Center auxiliaries. She was gift shop coordinator at Piqua Memorial for many years and religious goods store coordinator and mission commission member at St. Mary Catholic Church, Piqua. She assisted the Green Valley Girl Scout Council and later Buckeye Trails Girl Scout Council as a board member and supervisor of the annual cookie cupboard.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Hemm officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua.
Calling is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home, Piqua.
