Law enforcement agencies continue search for fugitive

By Shelley Grieshop
VERSAILLES - Area law enforcement agencies are warning people to lock their doors and vehicles while a search continues for a fugitive.
The suspect, 42-year-old Robert Scott Kindred, escaped from officers during pursuits Sunday and Monday in Darke and Miami counties near Bradford and Versailles. He is wanted for a probation violation, stealing several vehicles and breaking into homes in Darke and Miami counties.
Authorities believe Kindred stole a silver Ford Taurus overnight Monday in the Versailles area.
Monday's pursuit began in Miami County at 11:19 a.m. when a deputy requested assistance from the Darke County Sheriff's Office to stop a suspected stolen vehicle near Bradford. The suspect fled and 20 minutes later entered a cornfield in the 9600 block of Kelch Road, south of Versailles.
Officers say Kindred jumped from the moving vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies and Versailles police officers unsuccessfully attempted to follow him into the cornfield and a nearby woods. More officers were called while a perimeter was established.
A K-9 unit tracked Kindred to a large wooded area near Klipstine and St. Peter roads with air support provided by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. However, the search was eventually called off without success at 5:10 p.m. Officers reportedly were searching the area again today.
Kindred also led authorities on a pursuit Sunday, a press release states. That pursuit began near Arcanum and ended near Furlong and Deeter roads after deputies reportedly spotted Kindred driving a car stolen from the Versailles area.
Kindred reportedly drove the car through a bean field and into a wooded area before abandoning it. A search by numerous law enforcement agencies was called off about 4 p.m. Sunday.
Kindred is described as white, 5-feet-8-inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes and tattoos on his chest and arms. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Darke County Sheriff's Office at 937-548-3399 or any local law enforcement agency.
Darke County Deputies expect to meet with the Darke County Prosecutor to obtain an arrest warrant on further charges.
