Anna Hierholzer
Anna Alfreda Turicchi Hierholzer passed away Sept. 16, 2013, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Eaton, just two weeks after her 92nd birthday. She was a longtime resident of Celina, and for the past five years she was a resident at Vancrest in Eaton.
She was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Muncie, Ind., to Alfredo and Maria Turicchi, in the home of her great aunt and uncle, Eletta and Antonio Pieroni.
She married Charles Hierholzer, who died in 1981.
Anna is survived by her three children, John "Jay" (Virginia) Hierholzer, Columbia, Md., Lee (Debbie) Hierholzer, Murphy, Texas, and Kristine (Wilfrid) Dues, Eaton; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Gavin and Julie Dues, Troy, and their children, Adler and Cooper; Annina (Greg) Dues Parini, Worthington, and their children, Dominic, Luca and Vincent; and Jonathon (Lindsey) Dues, Chicago, Ill., and their son, Jonathon Robert; a sister, Maria Gloria (Lauretta) Altherr, Celina, and many beloved nieces and nephews and cousins in Italy.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Antonio Turicchi.
Shortly after her birth, she and her family moved back to Barga, Italy, where they remained until the summer of 1939. After moving back to America, her father owned and operated the original Sweet Shop on Main Street in Celina.
She spent 17 years as a sales clerk at Bair's Pharmacy in Celina and also worked at the Style Shop and Abrams clothing store for several more years. She was very well known in Celina, with her retail career spanning more than 20 years. Later in life, she worked privately for several local families, taking care of their elderly parents. In her spare time, she enjoyed visiting shut-ins at the local nursing home.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, the Rosary Society and the Daughters of Isabella.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lehman Hogenkamp Dzendel Funeral Home, Celina.
Girton Schmidt and Boucher Gard Funeral Home, Eaton, is assisting the family with local arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to Vancrest Health Care Center Activity Fund, Eaton, or the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church School Appeal.
