Dorothy "Ruth" Raymond, 93, St. Marys, died at 8:15 a.m. Jan. 20, 2014, in St. Marys.
She was born Oct. 14, 1920, in St. Marys, to Ralph Harrison and Mina Christine (Finke) Palmer. On May 29, 1938, she married Edwin M. Hollman in St. Marys, and he died Oct. 19, 1974. On March 11, 1983, she married Vernon "Susie" Raymond Sr., who died Sept. 30, 1998.
Survivors include two daughters, Jill (John) Bowers, St. Marys, and Joy (Steve) Peterson-Sibold, St. Marys; two sons, Jack (Karen) Hollman, Waynesfield, and James Edwin (Darlene) Hollman, St. Marys; stepdaughters, Jean (Fred) Waesch, Celina, Mary Jo (Tom) Walter, St. Marys, Joyce (Charles) Greenawalt, St. Marys and Karen James, St. Marys; stepsons, Michael (Gina) Raymond, Decatur, Ind., and Donald (Karen) Raymond, St. Marys; a stepdaughter-in-law, Kathy Raymond, St. Marys; 13 grandchildren, Mark (Patty) Bowers, Cathy (John) Prenger, Dan (Barb) Bowers, Jason (Holly) Holl-man, Kelli (Ken) Kattenbrock, Jacque Hollman, Jim (Julie) Holl-man, Todd (Missie) Hollman, Amy (Dave) Griffin, David (Amy) Peterson, Tom (Joyce) Peterson, Mike (Anne) Peterson, Theresa (Joe) Marcus; 30 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; 21 stepgrandchildren; 47 stepgreat-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are her parents; a sister, Berdell Ice; grandchildren, Kara Morgan and Eric Bowers; stepson, Vernon Raymond Jr.; stepgrandchildren, Chuck Greenawalt, Brittany Raymond and Todd Raymond; and a stepson-in-law, Gary James.
She was a 1938 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School.
A homemaker and farm wife, she retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 29 years of service as a production employee. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and its Rebekah Circle, Hawthorne Chapter 119 Order of Eastern Star (past Worthy Matron), and Women's Study Club and served on the board of Auglaize County Women and Crippled Children Fund. She served as Mother Advisor to the Rainbow Girls, volunteered as a reader and tutor for children at West Elementary School and served as an official bald eagle nest monitor for the Ohio Division of Wildlife. Her favorite pastimes included attending St. Marys Roughrider sporting events, supporting the Cleveland Browns football team and watching NASCAR. She also enjoyed camping, traveling, bird-watching and growing flowers. Faith, family and hard work were of utmost importance to Ruth. She will be missed terribly by her loving family.
Funeral rites will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, West Chapel, St. Marys, the Rev. Dr. Ed Bray officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
