Hugo Schlarman
Hugo E. Schlarman, 82, Osgood, passed away of natural causes Jan. 19, 2014, at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.
He was born April 23, 1931, in St. Wendelin, to John and Mary Bergman Schlarman. On Sept. 17, 1955, he married Elizabeth "Liz" Rose Wenning at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood, and she preceded him in death March 24, 2003. On Sept. 23, 2006, at St. Louis Church in North Star, he married Elizabeth "Betty" George Keiser, who survives.
Also surviving are two children, Tina (Bobby) Askew Jr., Germantown, and Ron Schlarman, Kettering; two granddaughters, Brianna and Sierra Askew; eight stepchildren, Steven (Angela) Keiser, North Star, Susan (John) Subler, Troy, Jeffrey (Karen) Keiser, Troy, Janice (Michael) Mescher, Quincy, Mich., Kevin (Ginger) Keiser, Troy, Timothy (Jenny) Keiser, Versailles, Nicholas (Holly) Keiser, Versailles, and Donna (Tony) Kueterman, Versailles; 24 stepgrandchildren; and 19 stepgreat-grandchildren; siblings, Lois Wenning, Osgood, Imelda Stucke, Osgood, Ohmer (Clara) Brandewie, Osgood, Velma Magoteaux, Osgood, and Lucille Kettering, Eaton; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo (Marge) Wenning, Yorkshire, and Theresa Alexander, Russia.
He was preceded in death by three children, Thomas, Jerry and Anna Marie Schlarman; three siblings, Eileen Schlarman, Herb (June) Schlarman and Rosella (Wilfred) Tanner; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Roman Stucke, Cletus Wenning, Bill Kettering, Josephine Bruns, Rita Bollheimer and Henry Wenning.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and had been stationed in Europe from 1953 until 1955. He was the owner and operator of Hugo's Barber Shop in Osgood for nearly 28 years and had been employed at Airstream in Jackson Center until he retired in 1996. He was a member St. Nicholas Catholic Church, the Minster Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 1391 and had been a past commander of the Osgood American Legion Post 588. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling and visiting with grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood, the Rev. David L. Zink presiding. Interment will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery with full military honors by the Osgood Legion Firing Squad.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie.
