Gerald Houston
It is with joy that Gerald "Jerry" "Sam" Houston was released from the grip of Alzheimer's on August 16, 2015.
Jerry was born in Sharonville, Ohio, on July 13, 1934. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Evelyn and Raymond Gamble; father, Thomas Houston, and two brothers, Thomas and James.
He is survived by Marge, his best friend and wife of nearly 59 years; son Mike (Karl) and three grandsons, Andrew, Mitchell, and Peyton Houston of Liberty Township; brother Larry of Van Wert, Ohio, and many special relatives and friends.
Jerry (Sam to his Mound friends) served in the US Naval Reserve and Regular Army. He received his Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Cincinnati in 1964 and his Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of Dayton in 1973. He was employed at Mound Labs in Miamisburg as a research and development engineer and retired in 1993.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with family and traveling. He was an avid golfer, photographer and cyclist, but, what he enjoyed most was refereeing soccer. He started when the West Carrollton Youth Soccer Organization was formed and continued with youth and high school soccer for nearly 20 years.
Jerry was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, served on the West Carrollton Planning Commission for 25 years and was an active volunteer with the Ombudsman's Office in Dayton for several years.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff members of both Elmcroft of Washington Township and Hospice of the Miami Valley for the love and care provided to Jerry and his family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Central Presbyterian Church, 4699 Lamme Road, Dayton, OH 45439. The family will receive friends from 10:30 A.M. until the time of the service at noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Miami Valley Chapter, Hospice of the Miami Valley, or Central Presbyterian Church.
