Alfred Manbeck
Alfred A. Manbeck, 79, New Bremen, Ohio, died 9:55 A.M. Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Elmwood of New Bremen.
He was born June 10, 1936, in Akron, Ohio, the son of Alton "A.K." and Hilda (Adams) Manbeck. He married Janet Elshoff on September 7, 1957, at the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, and she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by his children: Keith (Carrie) Manbeck of New Knoxville; Michael (Emily) Manbeck of Granger, Indiana; Cynthia Manbeck of New Bremen. He is survived by five grandchildren: Erin (Joe) Rammel; Cody Manbeck; Colton Manbeck; Tanner Manbeck and Marisa Manbeck. He is survived by three great-grandchildren: Jackson Rammel, Harper Rammel, and Brynn Rammel. He is also survived by a brother, James (Susan) Manbeck of New Bremen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by one brother, Dale Manbeck.
Al was a 1954 graduate of New Knoxville High School, and a graduate of The Ohio State University. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War.
He was the co-owner of Manbeck Nurseries in New Knoxville and also drove truck for Quality Redi-Mix and Broerman Trucking.
He was a member of the New Knoxville United Methodist Church. He was a member of Mercer Lodge #121, Free and Accepted Masons; Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton; and American Legion Post 444, New Knoxville.
He was active in Scouting, and served on the Eagle Scout Board of Review; he enjoyed camping and traveling and was a big fan of OSU athletics. He showed horses for many years, and loved gardening.
Funeral rites will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 8, 2016, at the New Knoxville United Methodist Church, the Reverend Dennis Gaertner, officiant. Private family burial rites will be held at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-8 P.M. Thursday at the New Knoxville United Methodist Church, where memorial gifts may be given to Grand Lake Hospice.
