C. Jan Frericks
C. Jan Frericks age 71 of Minster died on Saturday March 26, 2016.
He was born at his home in Minster Ohio to the late Clifford J. & Phyllis (Schmieder) Frericks on September 18, 1944. He graduated from Minster High School in 1962. He married Judy Schmitmeyer on June 3, 1967, who survives in Minster.
He is also survived by children Teresa (Tess) & Steve Abbott, Tucson, AZ, Rod & Holly Frericks, Minster, grandchildren Cody & Dustin Frericks, sisters Barbara & Don Farnsworth, Venice, FL and Diane Voskuhl, Minster, a niece Nancy Farnsworth & nephew David Farnsworth, in-laws: Mary Jo Granger, Minster, Sue & Mark Bornhorst, Minster, Ronald & Irma Schmitmeyer, New Bremen, Dale & Sandy Schmitmeyer, Minster and David & Marjorie Schmitmeyer, Minster, 14 nieces & nephews and great nieces and nephews. Jan was preceded in death by father-in-law & mother-in-law Henry S. & Thelma (Bohman) Schmitmeyer and brother-in-law Ralph Voskuhl.
He earned his Bachelor's of Science degree from Miami University of Ohio in 1966 and his Masters of Education degree from Wright State in 1970. He taught 4 years at Minster High School and was also Head High School Baseball coach and drove bus. He was a Guidance Counselor for 11 years as well as a bus driver and Basketball Coach for Houston High School for 11 years.
Jan retired from Apollo JVS, Lima after 14 years as a Guidance Supervisor. After retiring he worked as grounds keeper for Minster Local Schools for 10 years and drove school bus.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster and Minster F.O.E. #1391. Jan enjoyed playing and watching baseball, basketball, football and tennis, especially watching his grandsons competing in those sports. He also loved playing cards, fishing, traveling and riding his bike.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 1 at St. Augustine Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 until the time of service.
Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association.

They say that it takes a village to raise a child; well it took the kindness and patience of that same village to make Jan feel important and loved these last few years. Had it not been for the understanding of everyone he would not have been able to remain as active as he was. We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for every kind word and gesture extended to him.
