G. Eugene Brodbeck
G. Eugene "Gene" Brodbeck, 98, of St. Marys, OH died 9:50 a.m. Monday March 28, 2016 at Otterbein-St. Marys.
He was born February 23, 1918 in Noble Twp. – Auglaize Co., OH to Ralph C. and Margaret E. (Schillinger) Brodbeck. On November 10, 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church in St. Marys, he married Onnolee M. Wilkens, who died June 3, 2015.
Survivors include: daughter Joyce (Terry) Finke of Celina, OH; daughter Kristine Ann (Rev. Nick) Doversberger of Welches, OR; son Rev. Dr. Mark (Barb) Brodbeck of Mt. Vernon, OH; 6 grandchildren: Dr. Greg (Jennifer) Finke of Hamilton, OH; Dr. Matthew (Christine) Finke of Madeira, OH; Eric (Leah) Finke of Sidney, OH; Sarah (Kelly) Halliwell of Albany, OR; Jeanna (Bill) Doversberger of Canaby, OR; Joshua (Katya) Brodbeck of Upper Arlington, OH; 14 great-grandchildren; sister Rachel Webb of Rockford, OH
Preceded in death by: parents Ralph and Margaret Brodbeck; wife Onnolee Brodbeck; sister Naomi Now.
He was a graduate of Center Twp. Neptune High school (Class of 1935). He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the 34th Bomber Squadron, 17th Bomber Group during World War II, having served in the Mediterranean Theatre.
Gene retired in 1981 from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in St. Marys, where he worked as a machinist.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served as Sunday School superintendent for many years, and held many other church offices. He was also a life member of American Legion Post #323, life member of VFW Post #9289 and St. Marys Kiwanis Club.
His favorite pastime was playing a round of golf, reading a good book, playing cards, dancing and spending his winters in Florida.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin 3:00 p.m. Sunday April 3, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church 210 N. Wayne Street in St. Marys, with the Rev. Bill Maki, officiating. Burial, with full military graveside honors, will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, in St. Marys.
Visitation 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
