Bernard R. "Ben" Post, 89, St. Henry, Ohio, died September 30, 2016 at The Gardens at St. Henry, St. Henry, OH. He was born November 19, 1926, in St. Wendelin, OH to the late John and Cordula (Guggenbiller) Post. On January 3, 1953 in Chickasaw, Ohio, he married Joan (Bills) Post, who survives.
Also surviving are his fourteen children, Dan (Georgene) Post of Fort Recovery, OH, Don (Lucy) Post of Anna, OH, Diane (Dan) Wellman of Coldwater, OH, Deb (Steve) Otting of Canton, MI, Shirley (Rick) Boeckman of Coldwater, OH, Gary (Pat) Post of Fort Recovery, OH, Marie McGee of Coldwater, OH, Herb (Laura) Post of Fort Recovery, OH, Luke Post of Fort Recovery, OH, Linda (Tom) Fesenmyer of Maria Stein, OH, Leon Post, St. Henry OH and (Amy Quigley), Dayton, OH, Alfred (Niki) Post of Union City, IN, Jane (Ben) Kohler of Wapakoneta, OH, Doug Post and (Kim Whitton) of West Chester, OH; 36 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Faller of New Weston, OH; two brothers-in-law, Leon Vondrell of Fort Recovery, OH and Henry Drees of St. Marys, OH; a sister-in-law, Alice Post of St. Henry, OH; two in-laws, Verena Langenkamp of Coldwater, OH and Joanne Bills of St. Marys, OH.
Preceding him in death are his granddaughter, Kelly Post; his siblings, Rita & Herman Nerderman, Eugene & Esther Post, Gregor & Esther Post, Alma & Orville Ranly, Agnes & Paul Fullenkamp, Zeno & Delores Post, Zita Drees, Hugo & Norma Post, Alvin Post and Rosie Vondrell; in-laws, Jim Faller, Charles & Armella Steinke, Richard Langenkamp, Cyril Bills and Lester Bills.
Ben served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was owner & operator of the Ben Post Stone & Fill trucking business. He operated a snow plow for Gibson & Recovery Townships for many years and was also engaged in farming. He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, St. Wendelin, where he sang in the choir. Ben was also a life long member of the NRA.
Ben was fondly known as the "Sand Man" when hauling dirt for his business and enjoyed sharing bubble gum with his customer's children. He enjoyed hunting, being outdoors and playing softball with his children.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Monday, October 3, 2016 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Wendelin, Ohio, with Fr.Tom Hemm officiating. Burial will follow at St. Wendelin Cemetery.
Calling is 1:00 pm-7:00 pm Sunday and 9:00 am-9:45 am Monday at Brockman - Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, Ohio. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the American Legion, Fort Recovery.
