Velma Dietz
Velma Dietz, 89, of Saint Marys, died Friday, December 15, 2017, at Elmwood of New Bremen.
She was born December 20, 1927, in Coldwater, Ohio, the daughter of Edward and Catherine (Buening) Bruggeman. She married Leonard J. Dietz on May 23, 1950, at Saint John's Catholic Church in Maria Stein; he survives at Elmwood of New Bremen.
She is also survived by her siblings: Mary Alice Pierron of Osgood; Howard (Marlene) Bruggeman of Maria Stein; Larry (Becky) Bruggeman of Maria Stein; by her sisters-in-law Dolores Bruggeman and Doris Bruggeman, both living at the Gardens of Saint Henry. Also surviving are her sister-in-law Ann Marie Steinke of Saint Marys; brothers-in-law Lawrence (Karen) Dietz of Wapakoneta; Allen (Connie) Dietz of Celina; Kay Bruggeman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her siblings: Virgil Bruggeman, Donald Bruggeman; Eileen (Ken) Otting; Werner Bruggeman; Virginia (Lavern) Bruggeman; and by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Joseph Pierron; Mary Bruggeman; Blanche (Roman) Poeppelman; Leo (Mary) Dietz; Margaret (Vic) Overman; Theresa (Bill) Case; Herman (Eileen) Dietz; Don Steinke.
Velma was a 1945 graduate of Saint John's High School in Maria Stein. She had worked for many years at the former St. Marys Woolen Mill; she later retired from the S&W Motel in Saint Marys.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saint Marys, and the Altar Sodality of the Church. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and fishing, and made yearly trips to Rice Lake, Canada to fish. She and her husband, Leonard, loved to go ballroom dancing.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Saint Marys, Father Barry Stechschulte, celebrant. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4-8 PM at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, where memorial gifts may be given to the Friends of Holy Rosary School. Friends may also call from 9-10:00 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
