Madge Shock
Madge Elaine "Peg" Shock, age 88, of Celina, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Van Wert County Hospital.
Born on January 12, 1929 in Blackcreek Township, Mercer County, she was the youngest child of the late Ralph A. & Ivadel (Dudgeon) Shock. Peg was raised on a Guernsey dairy farm near Rockford, where she resided until moving to Celina in 2011.
She is survived by two nieces & a nephew: Teala Hellwarth of Fort Wayne, IN, Susan (Hellwarth) & Dan Miller of Delaware, OH, and John S. & Mary Jo Hellwarth of Celina, and four great nieces & nephews: Dr. Kristen Hellwarth, DVM of Garfield, NJ, Robin (Miller) & Kyle Thrush of Marion, OH, Jordan Hellwarth of Celina, and Kent & Ashley (Elam) Miller of Columbus.
Preceding her in death were a brother & sister-in-law, Max & Dorothy Shock, two sisters & brothers-in-law, Martha Jane & John F. Hellwarth and Ruthana "Annie" & Charles Hughes, and a Brother-in-law, Clifford Regedanz.
A 1947 graduate of Rockford High School, Peg went on to study at International College in Fort Wayne, and began her working career at the Mercer County Department of Public Welfare. Peg was then employed by the Mercer County Board of Education for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1985 after serving in various capacities-including Office Manager, Administrative Secretary, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Education. After retiring from the County, Peg worked part-time as secretary at the Celina First Presbyterian Church.
Peg was a member of the Shanes Crossing Historical Society in Rockford, and had been a past member and secretary of the Celina City/Mercer County Home Health Board. Over the years, Peg had taken various adult education classes for personal enrichment, among them golf, photography and stained glass. She enjoyed creating unique art and craft pieces.
Peg enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and being outdoors, especially working in the garden. She was very fond of animals.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, December 21, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
Calling Hours are from 12:00 Noon until time of services on Thursday, December 21, at the Funeral Home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to The Shanes Crossing Historical Society, Rockford or The Havlicek Memorial Lecture Fund in Applied Econometrics, through the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, at The Ohio State University.
