Voters elect 2 new members to Coldwater council

COLDWATER - Two newcomers topped a five-candidate field Tuesday to be chosen for the Coldwater Village Council, according to the unofficial election results.
Charmaine Bettinger, 52, and Tim Buschur, 54, won the two open council seats, beating candidates Brad Niekamp, 38, Dan Rose, 55, and Michael Winner, 64.
Bettinger received 538 votes, or 27.1% of the total 1,985 votes cast; Buschur received 528 votes, or 26.6%; Niekamp received 393 votes, or 19.8%; Winner received 307 votes, or 15.5%; and Rose received 219 votes, or 11%.
Buschur told the newspaper Tuesday night that he appreciated the votes of Coldwater residents and that he looks forward to serving on village council, saying it would be a different experience for him.
He hoped that with his background working as director of Tri Star Career Compact and working with local schools that he would be able to assist with handling the village's funding.
Bettinger could not be reached Tuesday night for comment.

BUTLER TOWNSHIP - Fred Kahlig was re-elected Butler Township trustee at Tuesday's general election, according to unofficial results.
Incumbent Kahlig, who has served for 20 years, won with 798 votes over challenger Rick Moorman, who received 673 votes.
ROCKFORD - Incumbent Amy Joseph will continue to serve as mayor after defeating challenger Margaret Gehle in Tuesday's general election.
Joseph, received 136 votes, 60.7%, beating Gehle with 88, 39.3% votes. She said she's excited and thanked village residents for their continued support.
ST. HENRY - Village residents on Tuesday voted to join an electrical aggregation group.
Residents cast 302 votes supporting the option and 52 votes against it.
CHICKASAW - Residents voted to replace the village's 3-mill operating levy on Tuesday.
The levy won 55 to 10, according to Mercer County Board of Elections' final unofficial results.
