Marcella Werling
Marcella C. "Sally" Werling, formerly of Burkettsville and St. Henry passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024, on her 85th birthday, at Elmwood Assisted Living of New Bremen.
She was born September 3, 1939, in Coldwater, to the late Ray & Emma (Mueller) Kunk. On August 30, 1961, she married her husband, Edward J. Werling. Ed and Sally were married just over 63 years, and Ed survives at Elmwood in New Bremen.
Sally is also survived by six children and their spouses: Michael J. & Julie A. Werling of St. Henry, Maria W. & Bradley Bubp of Piqua, Joan M. Werling of Coldwater, Steven J. Werling of Troy, John M. & Julie M. Werling of St. Henry, Rose M. and Jason E. Harrod of St. Henry, a son-in-law, Mike Broyles of Vandalia, and a daughter-in-law, Kendra A. Werling of Maria Stein.
Other surviving family members include 16 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, as well as siblings: Evelyn, Orville, Doris, Emily, Mark, Gary, Roger, Joe, Lawrence, and Lorraine, in-laws: James, Norma Jean, Mary Ann, and Frederick, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sally was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol A. W. Broyles, a son, Joseph E. Werling, and an infant grandchild, as well as siblings, Mary Lou Mohlman, Thomas Kunk, and John Kunk, and a brother-in-law, Bernard Werling.
Sally was an active member of the St. Bernard Church Community and had a passion for helping others, especially those with special needs. She was one of the founders and a 37-year Board Member of the Center for Neurological Development (originally in St. Peter and now in Burkettsville).
Sally was also a founding Board Member of the Mercer County Association for Children with Learning Disabilities (ACLD) and member of Project Sunshine. For over 30 years Sally and her husband Ed have been active supporters of the St. John Bosco Home for Boys located in Hatfield, Manchester, Jamaica and operated by the Sisters of Mercy. Sally was also a director of Religious Education for the St. Bernard parish in Burkettsville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, September 9, 2024, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Burkettsville. Burial in St. Bernard Cemetery will follow the funeral mass.
Visitation will be at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry on Sunday, September 8th. The Werling Family would like to allow special time for those with mobility challenges or special needs to visit from noon to 1 pm on Sunday. Friends and the public may call 1 to 5 pm on Sunday September 8th, or 9 to 10 am on Monday, at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry.
