Eileen Mescher
Eileen Maryann (Rethman) Mescher, age 89, of Cohee Road, Versailles, passed away of natural causes Monday afternoon, April 7, 2025, at the Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy, Ohio.
She was born February 5, 1936, in Yorkshire, Ohio, to the late August & Pauline (Pohlman) Rethman. On May 29, 1957, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood, Eileen married Eugene Mescher who preceded her in death on February 13, 2021.
Surviving are four of five children: Linda & Mark Rutschilling of Yorkshire, Jerry Mescher (dec.), Robert & Azile Mescher of Newport, Ken & Karen Mescher of North Star, Mary Jo & Jerry Ronnebaum of Chickasaw and a daughter-in-law, Barbara & Steven ReVard of Plain City; eleven grandchildren: Julie & Tom Parker, Jeff & Amy Condon, Cindy & Ethan Bruns, Nick & Katie Rutschilling, Aaron & Irma Mescher, Melanie Mescher & Bilal Shahid, Rachael & Adam Bruns, Rich Mescher, Bridget & Eric Huelskamp, Matt Ronnebaum and Holly & Matt DeMange along with 26 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leonard Rethman of Yorkshire and sisters & brothers-in-law: Luedna Gelhaus of Fort Recovery, Jim Werling of Burkettsville and Urban Mescher of Maria Stein as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters & brothers-in-law: Marjorie Rethman, Eugene Gelhaus, Marilyn Werling and Judy Mescher.
In 1954, Eileen graduated Valedictorian at Versailles High School. She had been a dedicated homemaker and farm-wife. Many years ago, she was employed as a secretary for Subler Transfer in Versailles (4-years). She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Ann's Ladies Sodality, Maria Stein Spiritual Center Piece Makers, Darke County Right to Life and the North Star Legion Auxiliary where she had been a past treasurer (25-years). Eileen loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking; especially baking cookies and pumpkin rolls.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star with Rev. Stephen Jones presiding. Interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery.
Family and friends may call Monday, 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie and Tuesday 8:30 to 9:30 AM in the church gathering room.
Memorials may be made to the Maria Stein Spiritual Center or charities of choice.
