St. Marys woman on a crusade to increase butterfly numbers

ST. MARYS - "Monarch Inn" might be the most appropriate name for Jill Bowers's rural home this time of year.
These days her house, garage and backyard are host to containers filled with monarch butterflies in various stages of development. "Monarch Mom," as she is called, nurtures them from tiny eggs, tags their colorful orange and black wings and sends them on their migratory journey to Mexico. [More]
ST. HENRY - The St. Henry Redskins opened Midwest Athletic Conference play in dominating fashion as they defeated the New Bremen Cardinals 42-0 on Friday night at the Wally Post Athletic Complex.
With the win, St. Henry improves to 3-0 overall while New Bremen falls to 1-2. [More]
DELPHOS - Coming into Friday night's contest, the Minster Wildcats had lost 13 straight games to the Delphos St. John's Blue Jays by an average of almost 28 points.
Unfortunately for Minster, history repeated itself as the Blue Jays used a strong rushing game and a tough defense to defeat the Wildcats 48-6 at Stadium Park. [More]

ROSSBURG - Sullivan, Wisconsin's Dan Schlieper turned in the fastest time during qualifications for the World 100 on Friday night at Eldora Speedway. Schlieper, the 2003 World 100 champion, toured the high-banked, one-half mile oval in 16.853 seconds.
WAPAKONETA - The Celina football team looked well on their way to picking put their first win of the season on Friday night with a 20-0 lead in the second quarter against a Wapakoneta team that hadn't scored a point all year.
COLDWATER - Two quick scores put Coldwater up early, but the Cavaliers had all they could handle from Versailles before holding off the Tigers for a 25-14 win at Cavalier Stadium in an early Midwest Athletic Conference battle of unbeatens.
