John Jansen
John J. Jansen, age 90 of Carthagena, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Mercer County Community Hospital, in Coldwater.
He was born January 4, 1931, in St. Henry to the late John & Margaret (Schuh) Jansen. He married Patricia (Koester) on July 30, 1955, and she survives in Carthagena.
John is also survived by three children and their spouses, Lynne & Tom Alverson of Cincinnati, Sue & Jim Banville of Monroe, NY, and Doug & Sarah Jansen of Carthagena, 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, Ken & Laura Alverson (Max and Nora), Zack & Chery (Alverson) Huebner (Poppy), Jim & Sarah Alverson (Annabelle and Lillian), Phil & Trisha Alverson, James, Lisa, Mary, and Christina Banville, Chase & Rose (Jansen) Bruggeman, James, Isabelle, John, Grace, and Peter Jansen, and siblings and in-laws, Paul Jansen of St. Henry, Margaret Stammen of Celina, Bob Link of Celina, Aneta Koester of Coldwater, Linda Koester of Montezuma, Edna & Bob Stout of St. Henry, Mary & Dick Franck of St. Henry.
He was also preceded in death by siblings and in-laws Clarence Jansen, Bill & Betty Jansen, Louis Jansen, Bob & Beulah Jansen, Henry Jansen, Tom & Mary Jo Jansen, Dennis & Lucille Jansen, Clara & Floyd Lauber, Isabelle & Paul Heinke and Mary & Oscar Hemmelgarn, Lucy Link, and in laws, Judy Jansen, Charlie Koester, Jim Koester, John (Gene) & Edna Koester, Madonna & Al Hart, and Ralph Koester.
He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Carthagena. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. John followed his father and learned the family trade as a plasterer and later became an electrician. He was a member of the IBEW Union Local #32, and was a member of AA where he found an extended family. John played the harmonica and sang for weddings. He enjoyed hunting mushrooms, squirrels, and trapping, but perhaps his favorite was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:30 PM on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at St. Aloysius Church. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery.
Friends may call on Saturday from 9:30 AM to 12:00 Noon at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry.
