Larry Korpi
Larry A. Korpi, 81, of St. Marys, OH passed away on Sunday, December 29 at 12:40 pm.
Larry was born May 29, 1943 in Waverly, New York to Urho August and Toini Korpi, both of whom preceded him in death. On August 1, 1964 he married Janet Foreman of Mansfield, PA, she passed away on October 8, 2000. On January 22, 2009 he married Tabitha Derloshon, who survives at the residence..
Additional survivors include one son Michael (Nicole) Korpi of Ft. Wayne, IN and one daughter Diane (Michael) Stitz of Chesterton, IN; four grandchildren, Jonathan, Kirsten and Nicholas Korpi of Ft. Wayne and Kennedy (Zach) Burris of Chesterton, IN; a great-grandson Colt August Burris;. Sister-in-law, Barbara Bell. He was preceded in death by his father August Korpi, his mother Toini Korpi and brother-in-law Richard Bell.
Additional family members close to Larry include Audi (Colleen) Scarpella of CO, Cory (Breanna) Scarpella of KS, AJ (Brittany) Scarpella of OH and 8 bonus grandchildren.
Larry retired from Agway, Inc., the Northeastern Farm Cooperative headquarters in Syracuse, New York after 35 years of service. The first 21 years of his career was spent in the corporate office in Syracuse, New York where he had the position of special tax manager prior to transferring to field operations. He held accountability for all special taxes and audit functions including property taxes, sales taxes, fleet highway use taxes, motor carrier road taxes, truck mileage taxes and all operational permitting functions in the twelve states of agency operations. He also supervised the licensing and permitting functions of the Agway vehicle fleet consisting of approximately 5,000 vehicles.
Larry was appointed plant manager of the St. Marys Pet Food plant in 1992. The plant was later known as Pro-Pet LLC. Prior to 1992, he served as plant manager of Agway Inc., Waverly, New York Pet Food Plant for a period of 7 years. One of those years was spent designing and implementing a warehousing and distribution system to sell retail pet food through mom and pop grocery stores in the Southern Tier of New York State and several New England States. Larry's plant management duties include total accountability for all plant functions including production, shipping, traffic, quality control and profitability.
Larry was a graduate of Agway's Executive Training Program of Rochester Business Institute, past President of Country State Federal Credit Union, former member of the Tax Executive Institute of Syracuse and also a past member of the National Association of Accountants- Syracuse Chapter.
After retiring from Agway, Larry finished his career by re-entering the workforce and joining Celina Insurance Group where he had responsibility for farms, loss control, and examining farms for insurability. He traveled OH, PA, KY and WV retiring in 2013 after 9 years of service.
Larry was also an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed golfing and an avid Yankees fan. In high school he was active in many sports and was given the opportunity to pitch at Cooperstown NY.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, with memorial service beginning at 2:00 pm, at Miller Long and Folk, 314 High Street, St. Marys OH.

Burial will be at the Canfield Cemetery, Van Etten, New York on Saturday, January 11, weather permitting.
