Rex Ferguson
Rex Allen Ferguson, age 68, of rural Celina, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, December 31, 2024, in the Emergency Department at Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater.
He was born August 8, 1956, in Celina, the son of Lester E. and Hazel Edith (Linn) Ferguson, who preceded him in death. Rex and Marilyn Jean Menchhofer were united in marriage on April 12, 1975. They were married for almost 44 years before her death April 7, 2019.
Surviving are their children: Michelle (Rob) Behm, Mike (Jill) Ferguson, and Ryan Ferguson, all of Celina, his grandsons: Will and Andrew Behm and Marcus and Jack Ferguson, and brothers and sisters: Becky Rasawehr, Max (Joy) Ferguson, and Deborah (Tom) Smalley, all of Celina, Mary Jo (Steve) Muhlenkamp of Portland, IN, and Peggy (Mike) Stroh of Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: James Heffner, Shirley (Dennis) Kunk, and Richard Menchhofer, all of Celina, and Brenda Menchhofer of Troy.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Heffner, brothers-in-law: Kenneth Rasawehr, Douglas Menchhofer, Dennis Menchhofer, and twins Donald and Ronald Menchhofer.
Rex was a 1974 graduate of Celina High School. He was a lifelong farmer in Hopewell Township. He raised livestock - first hogs, then beef. He was a grain farmer, and had been a dealer for seed corn and soybeans. Rex also operated a large custom hay baling and woodcutting business.
Rex attended Mount Carmel Church of God, Celina. He was a former member of the Farm Bureau. Rex was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
A humble, hardworking man, Rex would do anything for anyone. He truly enjoyed helping others, and wanted no recognition. Most of all, Rex adored his grandsons, and loved spending time with them.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 6, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina, with Rev. Mark Wakeland, officiating. Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Calling Hours are 1:00 to 4:00 PM, Sunday, January 5, and also prior to the Services on Monday, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina.
