A 24-year-old St. Marys man was shot by Celina police in the early morning hours of Aug. 25 at Eastview Park after he drove a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer directly at a police officer, missing him by only inches, Celina Police Chief Tom Wale revealed at a news conference on Friday afternoon.
Two police officers fired at the Chevrolet Trailblazer. Corey Andrew was shot but fellow passengers Hanna Pawelski, 24, and a baby were uninjured, Wale said. Andrew was transported to Mercer County Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The two officers who fired at the vehicle remain on administrative leave, and the case is under investigation by Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
