Frederick Berning
Frederick W. "Fritz" Berning, 90, Hoagland, Ind., died at 10:25 p.m. Nov. 26, 2012, at New Haven Care & Rehabilitation Center, New Haven, Ind.
He was born Feb. 21, 1922, in Allen County, Ind., to Fred C. and Marie M. Grote Berning. On Sept. 16, 1951, he married Florence M. Siebert, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Elaine (Jim) McDonald, Tempe, Ariz.; three sons, Norman (Cynthia) Berning, Hoagland, Ind., Dean Berning, Decatur, Ind., and Roger Berning, Hoagland, Ind.; a sister, Leila Judt, Fort Wayne, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
Deceased are a sister, Ottilia Kiefer, and a brother, Arthur Berning.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen, Ind., and its Men's Club, and the Allen County Farm Bureau. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked most of his life as a dairy and grain farmer.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday at the church, the Rev. Peter Brock officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Memorials may be given to the church or worship for shut-ins.
