Clement Eckstein
Clement O. "Clem" Eckstein, 81, Greenville, passed away at 2:33 p.m. Dec. 26, 2014, at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center, Greenville.
He was born July 14, 1933, in Wendelin, to Clement R. and Teresa Rammel Eckstein. On Oct. 3, 1959, he married Eileen Schmidt, who survives.
Also surviving are four children, Dominic (friend Sharon Vogel) Eckstein, Greenville, Lisa (Larry) Reigle, Tallahassee, Fla., Dennis Eckstein, Greenville, and Rita (Michael) Yarwick, Huber Heights; nine grandchildren, Courtney DiMaio, Brianna Gaffey, Erica Jones, Kailey Kurz, Brealyn Eckstein, Brandon Eckstein, Caitlyn Eckstein, Sophia Yarwick and Alaina Yarwick; three great-grandchildren, Keelia Gaffey, Layton Higgins and Madelyn Jones; two brothers, Clarence (Alberta) Eckstein, St. Marys, and Eugene (Joan) Eckstein, Coldwater; four sisters, Cleophia Brunswick, Coldwater, Hilda (Clete) Niekamp, New Bremen, Irene Mowen, New Bremen, and Teresa (Bill) Bowersock, Spencerville; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Virginia Walterbusch, Celina, Charles (Vera) Schmidt, Coldwater, Ivo (Roseann) Schmidt, Coldwater, Virgil (Velma) Schmidt, Chickasaw, Paul (Janet) Schmidt, Goshen, and Urban (Sandy) Schmidt, Goshen; special friends, the Mike and Sherri Jones family, Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sons, Charles and Marvin Eckstein; a daughter, Karen Eckstein; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Eckstein; two brothers, Lee and Herman Eckstein; two sisters, Margie Benanzer and Imelda Keller; and father- and mother-in-law, Henry and Leona Schmidt.
He was a graduate of the University of Dayton with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He retired from Greenville High School, where he taught for 19 years, and Darke County Weight and Measures, where he worked for nine years.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greenville. He was a 3rd Degree life member of the Knights of Columbus Greenville Council 1796, where he was a former Grand Knight. He also was a 4th Degree Knight of the Assembly of St. Gasper De Buffalo, where he was a former Navigator. He was a member of the Greenville Eagles, where he was a Golden Eagle.
He was a man with a big heart who generously gave of himself and touched many lives.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greenville, the Rev. John White officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville. A rosary service will be conducted by the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and a 4th Degree Honor Guard Presentation is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the St. Mary's Catholic Church New Roof Fund.
