Douglas Hartwig
Douglas D. Hartwig, 60, New Bremen, died Dec. 27, 2014, at the Arthur G. James Cancer Center, Columbus, after a brief illness.
He was born June 1, 1954, in Charleston, S.C., to Duane T. and Alice R. Gilberg Hartwig, who survive in New Bremen. On Feb. 25, 1995, he married Yvonne Grillot, who survives in New Bremen.
Also surviving are two children, Jasmine (Larry Taylor) Cotrell, Piqua, and Jeremy (Lisa) Hartwig, Covington; six grandchildren, Chloe, Arianna, Gabrielle, Ava, Isaac and Levi; four siblings, Dean (Kate) Hartwig, New Bremen, Steve (Diana) Hartwig, New Bremen, Barb (Mike) Holdren, New Bremen, and Jane (Pete) Gariety, Jackson Center.
He was a member of the former Zion United Church of Christ, New Bremen. He was a former member of the New Bremen/German Township Fire Department.
He had a love of the outdoors, taking trips to Fletcher's Pond in Michigan to hunt for mushrooms and spending time at any lake fishing or hunting. He enjoyed bowling and playing softball. He truly loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Services are 4 p.m. Thursday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, the Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Burial will be at a later date at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 1-4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the New Bremen Fire Foundation or New Bremen Emergency Squad.
